My son's workbench

I was digging through photos the other day and found these that I had totally forgot that I had. In July of 2010 I was building a workbench in my garage. It was my first official woodworking project and my excuse to buy a miter saw. My 5 year old was helping me when he asked if he could have a workbench too so we made a quick trip to Home Depot and got some materials. We made it all out of 1×3’s and some hard board. My garage is pretty full so whenever I build anything I have to set my tools up in my back patio and part of the process is bringing his workbench and scrap wood box out there too. He loves collecting all the scrap pieces and then stacking them together and making “constructions”.

Lowe's Build and Grow class

I took my 6 year old to Lowe's a couple of weeks ago to buy him his own toolbox.  While we were checking out the lady behind the counter asked if we had signed him up for the Build and Grow class.  This was the first that I had heard about it so I got some information from her and looked it up when we got home.  It is a free program that they have every couple of weeks during the summer.  I signed him up on the website with no problems.  We went to the class 2 weeks later and he got a Lowe's Build and Grow workshop apron, a pair of goggles, and the wood dragon kit.  They also supplied small hammers that you had to give back.  We were there for about 30 minutes and my son got to make the dragon and he received a iron-on patch and a certificate when he was done.  We brought his toolbox so he got to use his own hammer while building the kit and he thought that was great!  We have another one coming up this weekend and I am going to sign him up for any future ones I can find.  If you have any kids between the ages of 5 and 10 I highly reccomend looking into it.

Pegboard project

The pegboard above the main workbench is done. I still have a 2'x2' piece left but that will be going above the secondary workbench in the middle of a bunch of shallow shelves. Now the big question is what do I hang up on it?

This weekend's project

I am currently working on a kid sized table for my son's room.  I cut the aprons, glued some wood together for the legs and the tabletop and drilled some pocket holes last weekend.  I am hoping to get everything finish cut and put together this weekend.  If everything goes according to plan I will have my first woodworking YouTube video made from this project and posted soon!

First Post!

This is my first post in my new blog.

My name is Donald and I am an amateur woodworker.  I started this site to share my hobby with you and to document my learning process.  I want this to be a place where you can come and see my thought process about how I made something and then hopefully add your two cents in.  I'm not going to be able to make a project every week but I will make as many projects as I can as often as I can.
